I moved to Tucson in 1984 with my family.
I attended High School here and enlisted in the Air Force my Senior Year. Two years later, I returned to Tucson and attended the University of Arizona and got married. Upon receiving my Bachelor Degree, I won the Deserving Airman Commissioning Opportunity and was selected to attend Euro-Nato Joint Jet Pilot Training at Sheppard AFB, Texas, where my daughter was born. I then returned again to Tucson to learn how to fly the F-16. A few years later, I came back to Tucson again and worked on securing the Arizona border and welcomed my son into this world. I changed careers in order to be able to focus on my family and worked here in Corporate America for 7 years before deciding to open my own business. In 2021, my wife of 30 years passed away from complications with chemotherapy. I instantly and unwittingly became a single parent and learned the struggles and rewards of ensuring the happiness, growth and wellbeing of my children. I needed to get out and keep focused, so when I learned of the opportunity to become a Constable, I submitted my letter of interest.
I was appointed in October 2021 to fill a vacancy for Justice Precinct 5.
Justice Precinct 5 was merged into Justice Precinct 8 in 2022, so I ran as a write-in for the Primary Election in 2022 for the new Justice Precinct 8.
On August 25th, Constable Martinez was killed in the line of duty along with the property manager and another innocent tenant, before the gunman took his own life. This horrible event had devastating consequences on families and the community and had a ripple effect on the Constable office - with several Constables making the decision to retire or take on new jobs.
I assumed the role of Presiding Constable and worked to implement wide changes to improve the safety and effectiveness of the Constables and how we serve the community, as well as helping to ensure new Constables had the training, supplies, and support to perform their jobs.
With the cooperation of the County Attorney's office and the County Administrator, we developed a Standard Operating Proceedures Manual that helps streamline and unify the office.
Working with the Arizona Constable's Association and Constable Ethics Standards and Training Board, we ensured that all Constables had proper body armor.
I petitioned the Board of Supervisors for a supplemental budget to purchase Body Cameras, offering video documentation of events to promote transparency and protect all parties.
I also asked for Tasers so that Constables had a non-lethal form of defence.
I coordinated with the Pima County Sheriff and Chief of Tucson Police to establish communication and support between those agencies and the Constables.
I began marking our vehicles to allow for easy identification and promote awareness in the community.
Additionally, I aligned our training with the Pima County Sheriff Department to ensure continuity and conformity of skills, knowledge and requirements.
As one of the busiest precincts in the County, I served over 1,700 orders from the court last year with professionalism, integrity and compassion.
I regularly assist other agencies and the community however and whenever possible.
I am running for re-election so that I can continue to serve the people of Pima County and Justice Precinct 8. I have built many great relationships within the county over the last few years and wish to continue to foster those in order to provide a more open, safe, and effective service to the community
